Terms and Conditions

3.1 Registration

You must create an account to access most features of Grim Story. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information when registering and to keep your account information up to date.

3.2 Account Security

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must notify us immediately at support@grim-story.com if you suspect any unauthorised access to or use of your account.

We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to maintain the security of your account.

3.3 One Account Per User

Each user may maintain only one active account. Creating duplicate or fraudulent accounts may result in suspension or termination of all associated accounts.

5.1 Free Tier

Grim Story will offer a free tier with access to a defined set of features. The features available on the free tier may change over time as the Service develops.

5.2 Paid Tiers

Grim Story will introduce paid subscription tiers following the conclusion of the Early Access phase. When paid tiers are available:

• Subscription fees will be clearly displayed before purchase
• Payments will be processed by a third-party payment processor (such as Stripe)
• Subscriptions are billed on a recurring basis (monthly or annually, as selected)
• You may cancel your subscription at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period
• We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods, except where required by applicable law

5.3 Changes to Pricing

We reserve the right to change subscription pricing at any time. We will provide at least 30 days notice of any price changes to existing subscribers. Your continued use of a paid tier after a price change takes effect constitutes your acceptance of the new pricing.

5.4 Australian Consumer Law

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any rights you may have under the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010) or other applicable consumer protection legislation. Where statutory guarantees apply, we limit our liability to the extent permitted by law to re-supplying the relevant services.

6.1 Ownership

You retain full ownership of all content you create, upload, or submit to Grim Story, including character data, backstories, campaign notes, session logs, and any other creative material (“User Content”).

6.2 Licence to Us

By submitting User Content to Grim Story, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, process, and display your User Content solely for the purpose of operating and providing the Service to you. We do not claim any ownership of your content and will not use it for any other purpose.

6.3 Content Shared Within Campaigns

Grim Story allows users to share certain content within the context of a campaign. When you share content with campaign members:

• That content becomes visible to all members of the campaign you have shared it with
• Campaign members do not acquire ownership of your content
• Content shared within a campaign remains subject to these Terms
• You are responsible for ensuring that any content you share within a campaign is appropriate and does not violate these Terms or applicable law

Content sharing is limited to campaign members. Grim Story does not provide public sharing or publishing of User Content to the general public. You may not share another user's content outside of the campaign context without their explicit consent.

6.4 Content Standards

You agree that you will not submit User Content that:

• Infringes the intellectual property rights of any third party (including copyrighted game content, artwork, or text you do not have rights to use)
• Is defamatory, threatening, harassing, or abusive toward any person
• Contains sexually explicit material
• Depicts, glorifies, or facilitates real-world violence, self-harm, or illegal activity
• Contains personal information about another person without their consent
• Violates any applicable law or regulation

We reserve the right to remove any User Content that we determine, in our sole discretion, violates these standards.

9.1 Our Property

All aspects of Grim Story that are not User Content — including the application design, interface, code, branding, graphics, and underlying technology — are owned by or licensed to us and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, modify, or distribute any part of the Service without our prior written permission.

9.2 Third-Party IP

Grim Story is designed as a tool to support tabletop roleplaying game play. We do not own the intellectual property of any game systems, rulesets, or published content referenced within the Service. You are responsible for ensuring your use of any third-party game content within the Service complies with the applicable publisher's terms and licences.

9.3 Feedback

If you provide us with feedback, suggestions, or ideas about the Service, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free licence to use that feedback for any purpose, including improving the Service, without any obligation to you.

11.1 Service Provided As-Is

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Grim Story is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of viruses or other harmful components.

11.2 Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, loss of profits, or loss of goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of or inability to use the Service.

During the Early Access phase in particular, we accept no liability for data loss, corruption, or unexpected changes resulting from the development and testing nature of the Service.

11.3 Australian Consumer Law

Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee, right, or remedy conferred by the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded, restricted, or modified by agreement.

12.1 By You

You may close your account at any time by using the account deletion option within Grim Story settings, or by contacting us at support@grim-story.com. Upon deletion, your personal data will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

12.2 By Us

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms, engaged in fraudulent or illegal activity, or if we discontinue the Service. Where practicable, we will provide notice before taking such action.

12.3 Effect of Termination

Upon termination of your account, your right to access the Service ceases immediately. We will delete or anonymise your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination will do so, including sections relating to intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability.
